Also old, but definitely not more than maybe 2009 or so. WTF was wrong with me that I kept drawing skaters without helmets? That was probably before I saw a few catastrophic head injuries, I guess. The drawing on the next page sucked awful and was just me playing with colored pens. But I don’t mind what it is doing to these doodles.
Friday drop in, sprain on saturday. I taught myself how to drop in on my skateboard at Krause… the next day I was practicing by myself at OB (Trish was out of town), and I managed to misjudge a morning shadow and eat it on my own foot. It was hard to get out of the bowl and all the way to the parking lot but fortunately my friend Sylena, an EMT by trade, rescued me. That kicked off a whole year of injuries that has really sucked. But swirly script! Chubby foot! This is the first in what is apparently a Foot Series in this book.
Good hair day, obviously. (thinking about shadows and directional light)
Jack the dog and his froggy legs
New pens and a desire to paint our trailer inspired this…
This terrible drawing inspired a pretty nice deck
from a movie still of a film I haven’t seen
Hands are super hard
Cuda camp – Hellfish (first attempt). These pages are super dirty because the next few were drawn at Wasteland.
The other ‘cuda at Cuda Camp.
Another attempt at Hellfish
Not a likeness really, but I do like this drawing a lot.
Some skinny lady from a magazine, but I like the shadows and her hat
Atomic Cafe at Wasteland
Sigh. Foot again. Forgot the tattoos.
Light coming through the window. Probably should have tried to do this one in pen.
Dolly first attempt
Spring or Fall 2016. It was so nice out every morning I started getting up at dawn to drink coffee and sit on the deck. There’s that foot again.
I guess I draw my studio a lot, too. That huge tree in the background looms over it like a grim fairy tale forest.
Mmmm coffee steaming in the morning
Doodling practical clothing for women
Cuban. I think about her a lot but rarely get to see her.
What if Poseidon wasn’t another white guy?
Drawing water with black ink pens. Not easy, but worth a few margaritas on a patio outside Ensenada to try.
2nd attempt of Fall 2016 Ensenada weekenders
Back home, dreary home office. Somehow I made my black dog look like a white lamb.
This is happening. The library box is 90% built and we have hundreds of empty wine bottles saved.
Medusa
Another attempt at Dolly. I make her face to wide and cherubic but I just can’t help it.
The photo I used to try to capture Dolly
Try this. Put pen to paper and “draw” something without looking at the pen & paper. Only look at the thing you’re drawing.
Then try it again, but allow yourself only 3 glances at the drawing the entire time you’re mapping it out. I went back after and tightened it up.
Fog is super hard to capture, especially for an impatient person with a heavy hand
There it is again. Still.
A Coopers Hawk loves these branches.
Note where his neck was originally!
Hours and hours waiting
trying to capture scenery as we flew by at 75mpg
Hey, there’s that foot again!
Trish sometimes sits still long enough for me to draw her. It’s easier if I sneak a drawing while she’s reading the paper or something, though.
Sally Ride. She’s probably my next Dolly.
Too much TV
2015 Drawings and Doodles
A bunch of these were for a coloring book I thought I would make. Some of them are postcards I sent to friends. A few are from one of the dozens of drawing books laying around everywhere.
